Field Manual
Formation, not consumption.
Scripture Before All Else
Before reading anything listed below, read the Word of God. The Bible is not one resource among many. It is the foundation by which all truth, life, and direction are measured.
Every book, teaching, and community listed here is valuable only insofar as it points back to the Word of God and calls men into obedience to Jesus Christ.
How to Use This Manual
Not every book is meant for every man at every moment. These resources are organized by formation stage, not popularity. We encourage men to begin with the Foundation, then move forward as responsibility increases.
Strength before truth produces pride. Truth before strength produces endurance.
Foundation
Identity Anchored in Christ
These works ground men in truth, humility, and the cost of discipleship. They are the proper starting place.
- •Mere Christianity— C.S. Lewis
- •The Pursuit of God— A.W. Tozer
- •The Cost of Discipleship— Dietrich Bonhoeffer
- •Victory Over the Darkness— Neil T. Anderson
- •Humility— Andrew Murray
- •How Then Should We Live?— Francis Schaeffer
These form men who are submitted before they are strong.
Awakening
The Call to Responsibility
These works confront passivity and awaken men to courage, purpose, and calling. They are best read once a man is grounded in truth.

- •Becoming a King— Morgan Snyder
- •Stand Firm, Act Like Men
- •Kingdom Men— Tony Evans
These move men from comfort toward responsibility.
Formation
Strength Under Authority
These resources develop discipline, resolve, and strategy. They are tools, not gospels, and must remain submitted to Scripture.
- •The Warrior Ethos— Steven Pressfield
- •Gates of Fire— Steven Pressfield
- •The Warrior Poet Way— John Lovell
- •The Art of War— Sun Tzu
- •Meditations— Marcus Aurelius
These shape men who are strong without becoming self-sovereign.
Faithfulness
Endurance, Witness, and the Long Road
These works remind men that obedience is measured over a lifetime.
- •Foxe's Book of Martyrs— John Foxe
- •The Pilgrim's Progress— John Bunyan
- •Seven Men— Eric Metaxas
- •Carry a Big Stick— George Grant
- •Thoughts for Young Men— J.C. Ryle
These form men who finish well.
Leadership & Fatherhood
Strength Given Away
Formation is incomplete until it turns outward. These resources shape men as leaders, husbands, and fathers.
- •Fathered by God— John Eldredge
- •The Intentional Father— Jon Tyson
- •The Greatest Leader Ever— Ken Blanchard
- •Mark of a Man— Elisabeth Elliot
Strong men are not the goal. Faithful men are.

- •Warrior Poet Society
- •Wild at Heart Ministries
- •Calvary Chapel
- •3 of 7 Project
We encourage discernment, humility, and local church accountability in all engagement.
A Final Reminder
No book will do your work for you. No author can obey Christ on your behalf. Read to sharpen your obedience. Then close the book and live it.
Through Discomfort. Into Glory.
